    The Freight Transportation Services Index (TSI), which is based on the amount of freight carried by the for-hire transportation industry, rose 0.4 percent in January from December, rising after a one-month decline but increasing for the fifth out of the last six months. For the year from January 2018, the index rose 4.7 percent compared to 5.3 percent for the previous 12-month period (Table 4).

    The Freight Transportation Services Index (TSI), which is based on the amount of freight carried by the for-hire transportation industry, rose 2.0 percent in October from September, rising for the second consecutive month to reach a new all-time high, according to the U.S. Department of Transportation’s EmEdjimurjE’ (BTS). The October 2018 index level (138.8) was 46.4 percent above the April 2009 low during the most recent recession.

The July 2018 index level (135.1) was 42.5 percent above the April 2009 low during the most recent recession (Tables 1, 2, and 2A).
